A Book Fair

Books communicate knowledge and ideas. They portray culture and its diversity.

A book has a lot of advantages over other forms of communications in media in terms of its physical attractiveness, relative cost of it, accessibility, and the overall general convenience. 

In detail it can be carried around, read comfortably. It’s about putting it up to the public domain, which in return attracts a lot of writers who want to reach out and be recognized for their ideas. English language has an unparalleled number of books that are sold thereof.

My New Experience

20/1/2020 my journey at 2:30 pm reminds me of the day, which is exactly one year before where I had to travel all the way to YMCA ground on a sunny day fully exhausted by the tiring journey and bright sunrays just to see the shut doors, empty grounds and closed food stalls. I was completely shocked and came back home with a disappointed long face.

This was not the end because the joy of visiting a book fair was always blooming inside me.

This summer my 2nd Book Fair visit was completely a different experience to be cherished. This was totally a different experience because in a book fair we usually run behind bundles and bundles of books but this time it was necessary to have keen eye on the expressions and gestures of people of different age groups.

I was thrilled to see not only at the small children fighting with their mom and dad for comic books but also at the old grandpa’s and mom’s having deep analysis of the philosophical books.

VISIT TO A BOOK FAIR

Studying Arts was never my choice, and so I had to take to Arts as part of my career option only out of sheer compulsion, since the Sciences had always been my interest.

I love drawing. It took me a whole semester to figure out what was happening around me. I really hated when I heard names of different genres, history of English literature. I wanted to quit because I did not understand anything. I studied in an English Medium school but never spoke English.

I have never visited libraries in all my life, nor did I know that such a thing as a library ever existed at all. All these made me feel insecure and worthless. After my UG second semester, however, things began to change. I started developing a liking for Literature, which in turn made me to appreciate everything around me. I adored it more than science. My originality was appreciated which made me to feel confident about myself.

I was returning from my native place after the long weekend for the Pongal holidays. Already I was missing my home and all of a sudden my friend Sara messaged me that those who are assigned to Rufus sir for European Fiction have to visit the book fair held at Nandanam YMCA Ground and write an essay on that. Actually I was returning on January 20 and unfortunately the book fair was about to close on January 21. I was too tired because of 12 hours travel in train but I had decided to go to the book fair on January 20 itself. 

Since I was quite new to Chennai, I didn’t even know how to go to Nandanam. So I asked my friends for the bus route, but my sweet friends were ready to accompany me to the book fair. But I should also confess that, I was not in the mood to visit the book fair on that day. But I had no other options left.
